ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Improvements to a sewer and water line on St. Simons island are causing a big problem for drivers.

Drivers who don’t live along Sea Island are being detoured on Frederica and Demere Roads.

“It has affected my business in terms of my students getting to their lessons on time. I've had several cancelations which has affected me financially,” said Andress.

“It's bad, real bad,” said business owner Marc Andress.

Andress owns a business right near the construction work. He says during rush hour the traffic is unbearable.

A county spokeswoman says when school lets out, they see the most traffic.

The county says they do have a plan, starting next week, they will open one lane of Sea Island Road, hoping to alleviate the congestion neighbors see when school lets out.

Andress says he would also like to see officers directing traffic.

The work will be completed Feb. 22.
