WOODBINE, Ga. — The Camden County Board of Commissioners has announced $180,000 in funding from the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) Safety Action Project (SAP) grant. SAP has provided a total of $350,000 in funding, including $170,000 previously awarded.

“We are thankful to GDOT for the additional SAP funding,” said Camden County Administrator Shawn M. Boatright. “Their continued investments in Camden County greatly improve road infrastructure and provide for safer roads for Camden County residents and visitors.”
The SAP is a component of the Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) and aims to enhance the safety of county and city road systems by providing funds for improvements.
The program focuses on low-cost safety improvements that can be implemented on specific routes that are likely to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes and road departures.
This funding will be used for shoulder widening and thermoplastic striping on Horse Stamp Church Road in northern Camden County. Combined with the widening and resurfacing of Horse Stamp Church Road, the overall project cost is over $2.9 million in total, including $2.6 million in Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST VIII) funding.
“The SAP funds from GDOT will allow us to spend less local taxpayer money on the Horse Stamp Church Road project,” said Public Works Director Shalana McNamee. “Our local funds will be used on other roads in unincorporated Camden County identified by GDOT, including Dover Bluff Road and Harrietts Bluff Road.”
