JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Career offenders are tracked by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement using a statewide database.
Action News Jax found there are nearly 700 people in Northeast Florida area on the list. But nearly 40 people on the list have not registered, and law enforcement doesn’t know where they are.
While Jenkins hasn’t been arrested in the past eight years, he’s considered a career offender by the court system, which means he must register with the FDLE.
Kenneth Jenkins, a convicted felon, is on the list and accounted for. He now owns a small gym and he found his passion for working out while in prison.
“You can’t be a productive citizen in prison. If you want to be a productive citizen for your kids, mom, dad, family, you have to be free,” Jenkins said.
FDLE said it assists local law enforcement in keeping track of career offenders.
If they fail to register, it is considered a third-degree felony.
