JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Helping those less fortunate is the driving force behind the Clara White mission.

After facing a 45% cut to its services, the Clara White mission is celebrating.

"I'm here today to tell you that we exceeded our goal," said Clara White President Jucobi Pittman.

Action News Jax first told you in July that the mission had put out a call for action to raise $425,000 before August 30.

"I want you all to say this with me, '$536,933,'" explained Pittman.

The Jags, Vystar Credit Union, along with other local donors helped Clara White reach its goal.
Now it can continue to help students like Clem Robinson.

"They taught us how to serve, how to cook, how to prepare great meals but how to serve your community, for sure," said Robinson.

Clara White serves around 400 meals every day, houses nearly 40 homeless veterans and provides nearly 200 acres of fresh produce in food deserts across the city of Jacksonville.

This round of donations will help for now, but the future need is still there.

"We don't want them to stop because it's important that we continue to get dollars in," added Pittman.

The Clara White Mission was founded by Dr. Eartha M. M. White and has been around for over 100 years.
