The Clay County Animal Care and Control is urging people to adopt animals from its now full-capacity shelter.

The shelter said Wednesday that  they need adopters and rescues to help prevent euthanasia of animals.

The push happens in light of an pet owner who sent animals to the shelter.

Staff spent the afternoon assisting the Clay County resident by taking in 20 cats and 16 dogs. The animals brought the total number of 121 animals since Jan. 1.

The resident said she took in a stray pregnant dog who later had a litter of puppies.

Veterinarian said they spent Wednesday night doing medical exams on the animals. The one that are up for adoption have been spayed and neutered, the shelter said.

Staffers want owners to spay and neuter their animals as a way to prevent this situation.
