Clay County sheriff handing out “Cold Case Playing Cards” to generate leads

The 52-card decks are given to inmates “to spark conversations and leads,” Clay Sheriff Michelle Cook said

Like a game of “Go Fish,” Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said she’s looking to find a match.

Cook said the department is using a deck of “Cold Case Playing Cards” to generate leads - and find the people responsible for unsolved crimes.

Each card - whether an ace of spades or seven of diamonds - contains a photo of a crime victim and what is known about the crime and suspects.

“The decks of cards are handed out to inmates in area jails and prisons in an effort to spark conversations and leads,” Cook said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

The cards came to Clay County Sheriff’s Office courtesy of Project: Cold Case, a non-profit in Jacksonville that supports families of unsolved homicide victims by raising public awareness about cold cases to maintain interest.

“Thank you to Sheriff Michelle Cook and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Florida for allowing us to drop off some of our Third Edition Cold Case Playing Cards to their office so they can be distributed and hopefully placed in the hands of someone who can provide answers surrounding one of the cases,” the organization said Wednesday.
