The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said it has arrested a 19-year-old man for a robbery involving a firearm in a restroom at Publix supermarket on Blanding Boulevard on Friday.
Zion Jay Simmons, 19, was arrested for robbery after witnesses reported several male subjects running out of the store restroom following a single gunshot.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Orange Park store was evacuated and secured, police said.
Police said the individuals knew each other and planned to meet in the restroom. Once inside, an argument escalated into a physical altercation. A firearm was accidentally discharged, but no one was shot, police said.
Police said they will provide additional information as it becomes available.
