A Columbia County man braved stormy conditions on Tuesday evening to save an American flag that had been blown to the ground at the Lake City Softball Complex.

Kyle Green tells Action News Jax that the weather was so bad around 6 p.m., he had to pull off the road.

In a video Green posted to Facebook, he is seen pulling into the complex and the flag is flapping in the wind. As he goes back to the front of the complex, he notices the flag has been blown to the ground.

Green said the flag was still stuck to the rope and he thought he would have to cut it off, but it was attached with small hooks. Green was able to get the flag in his car after being pelted by hail.

Green, who is running for the District 5 seat on the Columbia County Commission, said he plans on taking the flag to the county office on Wednesday.
