No bond set for controversial pastor charged with child molestation

A controversial Georgia pastor jailed on child molestation charges is faced a judge on Monday afternoon, but no bond was set.

There will be another hearing on Friday at 9 a.m. to determine if there are enough charges against Kenneth Adkins, who is charged with molesting a boy under the age of 16.

Adkins spent the weekend in jail.There is a possibly the charges will be dropped Friday.

Adkins' attorney wants to subpoena the victim but can not locate an address for him.

Both Adkins' wife and attorney are standing up and speaking against the charges.

Adkins is an outspoken political activist who thrust himself into controversial issues, most notably the proposed expansion of Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance to protect the LGBT community.

He has openly bashed the gay community through social media, but now Adkins is facing felony charges of child molestation and aggravated child molestation charges.

The charges are the result of allegations made against him involving a boy under the age of 16.

A criminal arrest warrant says Adkins unlawfully and knowingly committed the act on a boy under the age of 16 years old some years ago.

Action News Jax Crime and Safety Expert Ken Jefferson explained the charges Adkins is facing: 

“When it’s aggravated, he used something, he used some kind of object and device,” Jefferson said. “Molestation in itself generally tends to be some sort of sexually exploitation of some sort.”

Adkins will make his first court appearance on the charges at 2 p.m. He is facing at least 25 years for each charge.
