UNF reports first on-campus case for fall semester

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health is reporting 3,220 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday. The total number of cases in Florida is now 608,722.

Locally, 256 cases are from our local area.

Duval County is reporting 147 new cases and three deaths, bringing the totals to 25,879 total cases and 246 total COVID-19 related deaths.

St. Johns County is reporting 22 new cases and one death, bringing the totals to 4,219 total cases and 22 total COVID-19 related deaths.

Baker County added 14 cases, Clay County added 25, and Nassau County added 11 new cases.

LOCAL SCHOOL CASES

Since students arrived on campus, 11 students and one employee at the University of North Florida tested positive for COVID-19. Only two of the students lived on-campus. The two students notified the university on August 21, but it only appeared on the tracking website on Aug. 26.

There are no active cases at Jacksonville University.

As of Monday, there have been four confirmed cases at Duval Schools. One student at Dinsmore Elementary, one employee at Highlands Middle, one student at Landon College Preparatory, and one employee at the Young Women’s/Men’s Leadership Academy.
