ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. — A Middleburg man died Saturday night when his pickup truck collided with a car that crossed the center median on U.S. Highway 441, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred about 8:40 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 441 south of County Road 237, according to an FHP press release.
Troopers said an 18-year-old woman from Lake City was driving southbound on U.S. 441 when she lost control of her vehicle for reasons still under investigation. Her car crossed the center median into the northbound lanes and struck a pickup truck driven by a 33-year-old Middleburg man.
The car flipped and came to rest on its roof in the northbound right lane. The pickup truck came to rest on the northbound shoulder.
Two other cars traveling northbound were struck by debris from the crash, and those inside were uninjured.
The Middleburg man, who was wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lake City woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Shands UF Health with serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation into the crash is ongoing.
