Major interstates in the Jacksonville-area have seen an increase in the number of crashes compared to 2015.

Action News Jax news partner News 104.5 WOKV obtained a Florida Highway Patrol shows a 31 percent increase in wrecks along Interstate 295 for the first four months of 2016.

Interstate 95 has also seen a 25.36 percent rise in crashes in Duval County during that same time frame, according to the same FHP report.

The FHP report doesn't go into the reasons behind why there are more crashes, but according to the map provided in the report, many of the crashes happened in areas that are currently under construction. It also doesn't specify the number of injuries or fatalities.

Troopers say there have been 994 crashes on I-295 between January 1 and April 1 this year. There were 725 crashes during that same time period on that same highway in 2015.

The vast majority of the increase on I-295 has been in areas normally patrolled by FHP. Troopers have handled 902 of the 994 crashes so far this year. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was the primary agency for 92 of the crashes.

In the first four months of 2015, JSO was primary responder to only 89 of the 725 crashes on I-295. The other 636 were handled by FHP.

Approximately 820 crashes have been reported on I-95 between January 1 and April 1 this year compared to 637 in the first four months of last year.

Like I-295, most of the increase in wrecks on I-95 have been in areas normally patrolled by FHP. Troopers were the primary in 699 crashes on I-95 for the first four months of this year, compared to 495 during the same time frame last year.

JSO has actually seen a decrease in the number of I-95 crashes they've been primary to in 2016. Officers have responded to 123 crashes for the first four months of 2016 compared to 142 in the first four months of 2015.

While not as large as I-295 and I-95, Interstate 10 in Duval County has also seen a 5.71 percent rise in crashes for the first four months of 2016. The 252 reported so far this year is 14 more than the 238 during the same time in 2015.

Like the other two major interstates, FHP has been primary responder to more crashes so far in 2016, but only slightly. The 231 reported for the first four months of the year is just over the 229 posted for the same time in 2015.

JSO has been primary in 21 crashes along I-10 so far in 2016 compared to 9 in 2015.
