CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Crews began repairs on a Clay County family’s home Wednesday after it was severely damaged in Tuesday’s strong storms.
A massive tree fell on the home and left a huge hole in the home.
“I don’t know how much damage is here but they’re going to have to replace all of this,” said Joe Amellio, the homeowner.
Amellio says he is thankful that he and his family were able to walk away without a scratch.
“You can see the two bedrooms where my daughter and grandson sleep it missed that part of the house,” Amellio said.
Crews arrived Wednesday morning to clear debris scattered throughout the yard and worked to remove the tree resting on the roof.

Amellio says he is worried about another large tree, which is now leaning and looks to be unstable.
“My main concern is that big tree another strong wind might push that over,” Amellio said.
Amellio and his family experienced a similar situation while living in South Florida during Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
“I figured I would come up to quiet nice Jacksonville area where there is no hurricanes, or very rarely, and what do I do? Get hit by a tree,” Amellio said.
Moving forward, he says he won’t be planting any large trees anytime soon.
“I’ll probably replace it with a tiny bush because I don’t want to go through that again,” Amellio said.
Amellio in good spirits and he said he is looking forward to gardening in his yard again.
