Report: 1 dead, 2 in critical condition after crash on I-10 in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is a dead and two others are in critical condition following a Saturday crash on I-10 in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said the crash happened about 2:18 p.m. at I-10 eastbound between the Chaffee Road and Hammond Boulevard exits.

A Honda Civic was driving eastbound in the outside travel lane, ahead of a Ford F-250 pickup truck.

Both vehicles continued across the eastbound lanes and collided with the guardrail on the left shoulder.

The truck, which was driven by a 16-year-old boy, rear-ended the Honda, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.

Eastbound traffic on I-10 has been diverted to Chaffee Road as authorities continue the investigation.

The rear-seat passenger of the Honda died at the scene, according to the FHP.

The driver and front-seat passenger of the Honda were taken to UF Health with critical injuries.

The 16-year-old suffered minor injuries.

Highway patrol will release the names of the victims once next of kin have been notified.
