Crews start tearing down The Jacksonville Landing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Construction crews are starting to gut The Jacksonville Landing.

The City of Jacksonville took over The Landing and will demolish it to redevelop one of the most prominent features of Downtown Jacksonville’s riverfront.

The City Council approved an overall $18 million package, of which $15 million is a payment to Jacksonville Landing Investments to end the long-term lease it has with the City.

The remaining $3 million is split equally between closing out subtenant leases and demolishing the building and restoring the site.

The Landing was once an iconic spot. There was a lot of excitement when it first opened, but the property declined over the years. There are no set plans for what will replace the Landing.

According to the Downtown Investment Authority 2018-2019 State of Downtown report, there are more than $1 billion in projects under construction downtown and another $3.6 billion in proposed projects.
