The parents of a 4-year-old girl beaten to death because she wouldn't finish her chicken nuggets will spend decades behind bars.
On Thursday, a judge handed down sentencing for John and Shavonn Norfleet, the father and stepmother of Jada Norfleet. John Norfleet received life plus 30 years in his daughter’s death and Shavonn Norfleet got the maximum sentence of 60 years.
They were found guilty on charges related to Jada's death in March. Prosecutors said the former Andrew Jackson High School teacher beat 4-year old Jada with a rod more than 20 times before she passed out.
The girl had injuries to her arms, back, and legs before she went into cardiac arrest. She died in January of 2015.
Jada was also beaten by her stepmother as well before her death, authorities say.
