ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Dave’s Hot Chicken is planning a third Northeast Florida location at the site of a former Wendy’s on U.S. Route 1 in St. Augustine, according to a permit application.
The franchise is seeking to a permit to renovate a building at 1830 U.S. Route 1, where it would operate as St. Johns County’s first Dave’s Hot Chicken.
The Pasadena, Calif.-based franchise, founded in 2017, has been rapidly growing its brand of Nashville-style hot chicken served as giant tenders and in sandwiches.
It was started as a tiny street food stand in an East Hollywood parking lot by four friends who put together $900 for a portable fryer and picnic tables.
The brand blew up via viral word-of-mouth and early social media buzz, eventually attracting high-profile investors like Drake, Samuel L. Jackson, and Usher.
The other Northeast Florida locations are in the River City Marketplace and on River Marsh Drive in the St. Johns Town Center area.
