It's a scam police say is taking off nationwide.
Police said scammers are posing as hitmen to scare people into stealing their personal information.
They send a text that says,"I've been paid to kill you, but wish to spare you. Inform the police or anyone else, you will die." The message includes an email address to contact immediately.

Police say that if anyone receives the text message, they should not respond.
"It's a text scam that's coming in that's threatening people's lives," Randy Pollard of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said. "It is a scam. It appears to be Trojan virus. Don't open it."
If someone clicks on the link, it copies the person's contacts and forwards the same message to all of them.
There have been reports of the scam in several states, including Florida.
