ST.JOHN'S COUNTY, Fla — Local kids got a chance to push around some dirt at the second annual ‘Digger Day’.
Petticoat-Schmitt Construction brought kids and their families with the Child Cancer Fund for a day of fun on Saturday.

This year was the second time Petticoat-Schmitt Construction has put on the event. Today, they presented a $33,000 dollar check, which will all go to the Child Cancer Fund.
“It’s just amazing getting to see all the kids out here having a great time and enjoying themselves and getting to forget about cancer for the day.” said parent Krista Risher.

Action News Jax got the chance to speak with some of the kids, who said they’ve never done anything like this.
“I think it’s really fun to learn how to work them and all the mechanics,” Kacey Risher said.
Last September, Nicole Seguin’s son, Chase, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She said events like this one are special.

“We just went through one of the toughest phases of the treatments and it ended with an eight-day hospital stay, and to come out on the other side and to be able to do fun things, it’s meant the world to our family,” said Seguin.
The owner of Petticoat-Schmitt construction said ‘Digger Day’ will be back again next year.
“To be able to give the children a day of enjoyment and smile is wildly impactful I think for them and their families but for us and our families,” said Ryan Schmitt.
