JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A successful Black Friday Weekend for Jacksonville’s Animal Control and Protective Services and the Jacksonville Humane Society led to an all-time low of animals in shelters, according to ACPS.

They report 78 animals were adopted over the weekend, leaving just 109 dogs and 92 cats in the shelter that are not yet ready for adoption.

ACPS says those animals have yet to go through behavior checks and pre-adoption surgeries.

This time last year there were 311 dogs in the system and 121 cats.

ACPS says it usually transfers dogs and cats to the Jacksonville Humane Society and other pet rescue groups, but this year the humane society is sending ACPS more animals.
