JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry, also known as BEAM is providing hurricane kits for at-risk seniors in the beaches area.
With many storms brewing in the tropics, BEAM is making sure that seniors have the supplies they need if anything were to hit Northeast Florida.
The hurricane kits will be distributed to low-income elderly individuals who live alone, have health challenges, and have little to no family nearby.
“Our senior residents are very at-risk during a storm, as they have mobility challenges and could become stranded without emergency supplies and food. Since September is Hurricane Preparedness Month, we are taking proactive measures now to make sure that doesn’t happen,” explains Lori Richards, Executive Director of BEAM.
The hurricane kits will include a first-aid kit, lantern, radio, batteries, hand sanitizer, non-electric can opener, masks, alcohol sanitizing wipes, three one-gallon jugs of water, and nonperishable food to last five days.
