JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A drive-by shooting on the Westside was caught on camera Sunday afternoon.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a woman in her 20s was hit by one of the bullets after a gray car drove by the house and fired multiple gunshots.

The shooting happened on Melissa Court West.

Shortly after, gunshots echoed throughout the neighborhood. The car sped off and people ran back inside.

Only Action News Jax reporter Ben Ryan had the footage of what happened on Sunday. Neighbors said they heard arguments coming from the home just before the shooting.

A neighbor Action News Jax spoke with didn’t want to be identified for their safety.

“You hear a neighbor down the street and she’s kind of yelling and arguing with someone,” the neighbor said. “I would say about 10 seconds later after arguing with the person on the phone you hear about five gunshots.”

The security camera footage shows the shooting was at 2:06 p.m. JSO said it may have stemmed from an incident earlier in the day but didn’t provide any details.

However, Action News Jax has learned from the same surveillance video, that sometime around 10:01 a.m., someone who appeared to be a woman, was dragged by their hair around and yanked towards the same house where the shooting happened.

Neighbors said there was a fight around 10 a.m. but said this was a different woman from the one who was shot; but in their minds, aren’t ruling out a connection.

“I guess one of the residents that lives down there was fighting, had an altercation with a woman and the woman was being drug down the street,” a neighbor said. “Later on she was basically was brought back down the street butt-naked so I don’t know if that was retaliation because of that but the woman looked pretty beat up.”

Several neighbors told Action News Jax that crime and violence in the area is getting out of control and hope something changes soon.

As far as the shooting, JSO said there are currently no suspects and are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
