Duval County Public Schools’ audit reveals mismanaged money

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax Meghan Moriarty is going through the audit and will have more information on CBS47 at 5.

Here is what we know:

  • In an annual report by the State Florida Auditor General, auditors found that Duval County School District miss awarded best and brightest scholarship awards totaling approximately $80,000 to 79 teachers.
  • The district failed to pay the state back.
  • According to the audit, DCPS also mismanaged money. It put money into the general budget fund when it was supposed to go elsewhere.
  • The district also did not always comply with emergency drills and safe-school officer assignment requirements specified in State law.
