ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Here’s something you don’t see everyday.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office received a call for help over the weekend. Someone needed help with an emu that wandered into their front yard.
SJSO was able to identify the large bird’s owner and reunite it with its family, and yes it all happened without incident, as deputies say.
According to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, emus are one of the largest living birds on Earth, second only to ostriches. Emus can grow to be over 6 feet in height, and can weigh over 100 pounds.
Just last year, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission joined forces to capture a wild emu on the loose on the city’s Westside.
