JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 28-year-old man is dead after crashing on I-295 Southbound near Wilson Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The single-car crash happened around 4:20 a.m. Sunday and shut down several southbound lanes on I-295 West during the early morning hours.

FHP said the driver of a white Ford Fusion, the only occupant in the car, was traveling southbound on I-295 when he lost control and struck the guardrail on the left shoulder.

The FHP report did state the driver was wearing his seatbelt.

The car then traveled back across the interstate onto the grass shoulder and started to overturn, hitting a light pole and an overhead sign support pole, according to FHP.

It is unknown what caused the driver to lose control of the car. FHP did not release any other details.
