FHP: 7-year-old boy in critical condition after crash on I-295 in Jacksonville dies

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE May 22, 2021: Action News Jax has learned that the 7-year-old boy involved in this crash has died. A GoFundMe has been launched to pay for his funeral.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A crash on Interstate 295 southbound at Monument Road has left a 7-year-old boy in critical condition, according to a report from Florida Highway Patrol.

The report says that a Buick Regal was driving onto the entrance ramp to get onto I-295 southbound from Monument Road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road and crashed into a parked semi.

A 7-year-old boy in the Buick was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with critical injuries.

The 31-year-old driver of the Buick suffered no injuries. The 30-year-old driver in the semi also had no injuries.

This is the second crash this week where a car crashed into a parked car.
