Dwane Roberts lives within a few yards from where the fire started.
Around 4:00 a.m., he woke up to flashing light and saw flames shooting out of the apartment complex.
"Oh my God it was like, it was crazy. I really couldn’t explain it. I've never seen a fire that big before," Roberts said.
His first thought was getting his family out. “My boys, that was the first thing I got to get my boys out,” Roberts said.
Firefighters told Action News Jax three people were taken to the hospital but weren’t seriously hurt.
More than 10 units were damaged.

JEA shut off power to all of those units.
Roberts told Action News Jax reporter Alicia Tarancon his family just moved to the Park at Anzio on Friday and he’s just praying for the families impacted by the fire.
"I hope everybody’s OK, I hope everybody’s fine. I hope everybody has a full recovery," he said.
At this time investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
