JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Fire Watch is a Jacksonville-based program on a mission to end veteran suicide.
The effort to reduce Northeast Florida’s veteran suicide rate is the first of its kind. No other city or state in the country has done this before.
The Fire Watch works to connect veterans with the help they need.
The organization works in two ways. One way is coordinating resources with numerous community partners to help veterans in crisis.
They unite vets with local assets and create a support system needed to ensure the safety of our former soldiers.
Second, they are creating a community of over 10,000 volunteers called “Watch Stander,” where volunteers learn the warning signs of vets in crisis in order to direct them to the resources they need.
The Fire Watch is currently looking for more local volunteers to join “Watch Stander” community.
