Man taken into police custody after SWAT standoff in Northwest Jacksonville neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 11:31 p.m.: Police have arrested Blake Allen Sims, 31, for 3 counts of aggravated assault and 1 count of false imprisonment.

Police originally responded to a domestic dispute at 6500 W. 5th Street. Sims threatened someone else in the house and then threatened police with a knife before barricading himself inside the home.

After calling out the SWAT team and using gas, Sims came out of his home and was arrested. Sims appeared to be under the influence of an unknown drug.

UPDATE 10:27 p.m.: A man has been taken into police custody after a SWAT team was called out to 6500 W. 5th Street.

Police were trying to get someone to come out of the home since Saturday afternoon. A man walked out at 10:15 p.m. and was handcuffed on the ground. The man was escorted to an ambulance.

A loudspeaker was used by police to communicate with the man inside until he finally exited the home.

Police are expected to hold a briefing with additional details at 11:25 p.m. Action News Jax will provide updates as soon as they become available.

UPDATE 9:52 p.m.: A SWAT team has been called to the neighborhood in the past hour and a half.
