JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville chapter of Men Against Destruction - Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorder is using the basketball court to keep young men out of criminal court.

The president of the Jacksonville MADDADS chapter said it is getting kids off the street and instead on to the basketball court. While in the program, they teach life skills including, finances, job training, and reinforces stronger relationships with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Donald Foy said youth in underserved communities oftentimes run into trouble with the law because of single-parent families, drugs, and financial problems.

Action News Jax Robert Grant will have more on the story on Action News Jax at 5 on CBS47/FOX30.

The program, called Life Skills University, started about two weeks ago, but Foy said you can still sign up. They practice on the court usually once a week on Saturdays. You can reach MADDADS at 904-718-1649.
