Body of missing boater found near Buckman Bridge

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATED STORY 10/2/2020 4:12 p.m.- FWC has confirmed Walter Williams’s body was found a half a mile north of the Buckman Bridge.

UPDATED STORY 10/2/2020 1:54 p.m. - Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is looking for Walter Williams who was last seen on his boat near the Buckman Bridge Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone with information related to the crash, or witnessed the incident is asked to call the FWC hotline at 1-888-404-3922 or the nearest local law enforcement agency.

According to a report from FWC, Williams hit the bridge and feel out of the boat.

He has not been located.

FWC gave Action News Jax this statement:

“On Wednesday, Sept. 30, at approximately 4:40 p.m., a single vessel incident occurred on the north side of the Buckman Bridge located on the St. Johns River. Upon FWC and JFRD arrival, the vessel was located capsized and drifting north of the Buckman Bridge. No occupants were found onboard or near the vessel. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the FWC Dive Team responded to the scene. JSO and FWC dive teams are attempting to use side sonar near the accident scene under the Buckman Bridge to locate the victim. The incident is being investigated by the FWC Investigations Section and JSO.”

ORIGINAL STORY 9/30/2020- According to JFRD, a boat capsized north of the Buckman bridge with one person in the water.

The FWC says they are working to locate the missing boater.
