UPDATED STORY 11/16/2020 7:46 p.m.- The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says two suspects are in custody after holding a person hostage in an apartment in Arlington.

It prompted the SWAT team to be called in and shut down a part of the 1600 block of Mill Creek Road.

Public Information Officer Christian Hancock said it all started around 3:30 p.m. Monday when an officer in an unmarked car spotted a stolen truck, that was reportedly taken during a carjacking in Georgia a few days ago.

Officer Hancock said the officer in the unmarked car attempted to stop the suspects off Arlington Expressway, but they drove off. The officer in the unmarked car was not able to pursue the suspects.

Officer Hancock said there was no car chase, instead, a JSO Air Unit spotted the stolen truck and followed it by air until the suspects crashed along a guardrail. The Air Unit then watched as the suspects ran from the crashed truck and into an apartment complex off Mill Creek Road.

Officer Hancock said the suspects, believed to be armed, took a hostage inside of one of the apartment units.

JSO officers surrounded the area and called in SWAT and hostage negotiators.

After around four hours, JSO said the suspects surrendered and were taken into custody.

Officer Hancock said the hostage victim was not hurt.

Officer Hancock said at one point four schools were put on lockdown, but all students and faculty were escorted off the property without incident.
