JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced that it has detained a driver after he plowed through three pedestrians on Minnie Street and Kings Road.
Action News Jax first told you about police activity in the area around 4:30 a.m. after we saw the crash on Florida 511.
According to detectives, JSO received a call at 3:50 a.m. saying that a white Dodge Charger with a red strip struck three pedestrians before fleeing the scene. The pedestrians were on the grass shoulder when they were hit. One pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries, and the other two suffered serious injuries.
Shortly after the crash, a patrol sergeant located the same car near University Boulevard and Beach Boulevard. The sergeant attempted to pull over the car with lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop. A pursuit continued down Beach Boulevard.
The suspect ran numerous red lights at a high speed until he struck a light pole on Beach Boulevard at the I-295 off-ramp. The suspect suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The sergeant wasn’t harmed.
Right now, the intersection of Kings Road and Minnie Street is open. A small portion of Beach Boulevard at I-295 is closed, but it’s not affecting traffic flow. The roadway will open within an hour.
