Man accused of intentionally setting his mother’s Jacksonville home on fire while she was inside

WHAT WE KNOW:

  • Ryan Nguyen, 33, is accused of intentionally setting his mother’s Arlington home on fire while she was inside.
  • Police arrested Nguyen Wednesday and charged him with arson for the fire that happened Wednesday night at a home on Dandy Avenue.
  • Family said the suspect suffers from a mental illness.
  • Court records show Nguyen’s sister filed a domestic violence injunction against him less than a month ago. The injunction was dismissed in late February.
  • In the injunction report, the sister said Nguyen threw her to the floor when she asked for the keys to the car they share. She wrote to the court that his “behavior is escalating, placing the safety of my five year old in serious imminent danger” and “I am afraid for both of our safety.”
