A man found dead in Georgia leads local detectives to a woman’s body inside a Jacksonville home.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began Wednesday when a man was found dead roughly 200 miles away in Bainbridge, Georgia.
Police told Action News Jax a deputy discovered the man, who is believed to be 30 to 40 years old, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, in a wooded area along a rural road. Investigators said a van at the scene linked back to a home on Carver Circle in Jacksonville.
JSO did a welfare check and found a woman, between 30 to 35 years old, dead on the kitchen floor. Officers said the woman had been shot and they suspect foul play was involved in her death.
Neighbors said a mother, father, and four children live at the home on Carver Circle. An investigator with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office said the children are safe with relatives in Georgia.
The identities of the man and woman have not been released. Police did not describe the relationship between the man and woman. Investigators have not ruled out if this is a homicide-suicide.
