JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Major League Baseball is not welcoming fans in stadiums right now, but they do have an alternative, cardboard cutouts.

One Jacksonville family has an 82-year-old family member who is a die-hard A’s fan, Joe Hofer. His granddaughter, Ally made a cardboard cutout of her grandpa and called it flat “Pop Pop.”

The president of the A’s reached out to “Pop Pop,” Joe, and invited him to throw the first pitch at a game in 2021.

A video Aly made of “Pop Pop” eventually got the attention of the Oakland A’s, and the team surprised the entire family with tickets to a game in 2021.

Action News Jax will be sure to keep you updated on how the first pitch goes.
