Salvation Army opens shelter tonight

Freeze Watch in effect Monday night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Salvation Army will open its downtown shelter Monday night due to the cold weather. The shelter opens whenever the overnight temperatures drop below 42 degrees.

The shelter will open at 6:30 p.m. and will help the first 60 people that arrive. A hot dinner is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and breakfast will be served in the morning.

A Freeze Watch is in effect Monday night and Tuesday morning for northeast Florida. Neighborhoods in Jacksonville west of Interstate 95 will freeze Tuesday morning, but the beaches will not freeze.
