JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Action News Jax is getting answers for a local mother who buried her daughter six months ago and has not received the headstone.

“You think about her every day,” Action News Jax Ben Becker asked Carol McGriff about her daughter. “I think about her every day. I miss her so much,” McGriff said.

“She’s been depressed most of her life,” Carol McGriff said.

Her daughter, Twanna McGriff, 34, committed suicide in June.

The mother has been seeking closure and has waited months for a headstone that reads: “I will not water myself down, just because you can’t handle me at 100% proof”

“What hurts the most now is that she’s buried, but you can’t tell she’s buried because there’s no headstone.”

One week ago, Becker received a voicemail from McGriff: “I’m sitting up here looking at Fox 30 News and I decided to look online and give you all a call.”

McGriff showed Becker a receipt from Southern Monument Company for $1,175.

Becker went to the business to find out what was going on and was told COVID-19 delayed the ordering process but they have been working on finishing the headstone the past week.

A worker showed Becker the headstone and told him because he got involved, they will put a rush on it and get it to the cemetery by Tuesday.

“Oh man, that’s a blessing. I thank you so much, Ben,” McGriff told Becker on the phone. “That’s a blessing. Wow, that’s awesome.” She added to a nearby family member, “He got right on it.”
