Woman found dead after crash in retention pond in North Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman is dead following a crash in North Jacksonville late Wednesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police say they were called out to 1550 Vantage Way South about a submerged vehicle in a retention pond.

Officers, along with crews of Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, went into the water to find any potential crash victims, but did not find anyone.

A description of the vehicle or the woman’s identity has not been revealed at this time. Traffic homicide and crime scene detectives are working to learn what caused the crash.

The JSO dive team later arrived in the area and found a woman’s body in the pond. The vehicle has since been removed from the pond and no other victims were found inside the vehicle.
