JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man suspected of shooting and killing a woman sitting in her car is on the loose.

Terrell Bennett lives near the scene where a woman was killed Thursday night on Sophia Street.

He says the shootings are nothing new in the Woodstock area.

"It’s too much violence out here, you know what I’m saying and we got to think about the next generation. What’s going to go on with the next generation," Bennett said.

JSO detectives tell us a woman was found shot to death inside a car at the Huron Sophia apartment complex.

She was rushed to UF Health but couldn’t be saved.

Police tell us there was also a man in the car with her, but they don’t believe he is a suspect.

They believe the shooter could be driving a dark four-door car.

Police say the woman may have been visiting someone who lives at the apartment complex.

Action News Jax told you last month when a man in his mid-20s was also killed at this same complex.

Annie Morgan Elementary school is within a quarter-mile of where the shooting happened.

One mother of three didn’t want to show her face on camera out of fear but told me she worries about the children in the neighborhood.

"I got to walk my babies to the store, they ain’t walking to no store by themselves. Not around here. No sir," she told us.

Bennett says his neighborhood needs more programs to help the youth stay away from gangs and crime on the streets.

"We need to put in more community centers. There's kids raising kids. There's no guidance, we need a good guidance around here," he said.

Neighbors tell us they also want to see more police officers to patrol the area so they can feel safer.

At this time police have not released the victim’s identity.
