JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Duval County Public School officials contacted parents Friday, warning them of possible impacts from a threatened bus drivers strike - three days before Monday’s scheduled start of school.
“Dear Team Duval Families ... negotiations are continuing today,” the message read, warning parents in the Southside and Mandarin they would be among those affected, if a strike occurs.
Teamsters Local 512, which represents 275 bus drivers, is negotiating terms with Durham School Services, which services that part of town.

DCPS officials told parents they will provide updates. Officials for both the Teamsters and Durham each said they are continuing talks.

“Durham School Services will continue to bargain and negotiate in good faith, and are resuming talks today with the intent of reaching a deal,” the bus services provider’s statement said.
The Teamsters release said the union is “committed to coming to terms on a fair contract.”

Durham is one of two companies that buses Duval County students to school. The other is Student Transportation of America, which serves Northside. Downtown, Airport and Westside areas.
