JACKSONVILLE — A wedding band and box of family photos are about all Matt Zenni said he was able to salvage after fire destroyed the home where his parents lived for the past 15 years.
He said his parents are struggling to deal after the fire claimed their home and three pets Saturday.
The homeowners were at the beach when flames erupted at their Provost Rd. home in Jacksonville's Sans Souci neighborhood around 1:30 p.m..
A neighbor told Action News Jax that he and others tried to get inside and rescue the pets but couldn't.
"We were afraid if we kicked in the door the place would just go up in an inferno," John Shea said.
Family said investigators suspect an electrical problem was to blame for the fire.
Matt is grateful that some of the photos survived because, in his words, “those are our memories."
One photo that he salvaged was taken on his parent's wedding day.
"Their 35th anniversary is this month," he said.
