JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some neighbors at the Valencia Way apartments are furious after they said their gas has been shut off for almost a week now.

The management team at the apartment complex said they still don’t know when the issue will be resolved.

For families inside the Valencia way apartments like Aisha Douglas, for the last week many said they’ve been forced to live in torture.

“It’s a whole week everybody’s bathing in cold water. It’s been a whole week we shouldn’t have to do that,” Douglas said.

It’s because last Tuesday the gas was shut off because of repairs being made in the complex.

No gas means no hot water. Douglas said she has five children and what’s even worse is her 2-month-old grandson has also been affected by this.

“I have a grandbaby. I can’t even bathe my grandbaby and I’m not bathing him in no cold water cause that’s pneumonia,” Douglas said.

The Millenia companies who owns the complex told Action News Jax they have two crews working long hours trying to repair the problem.

Teco Energy found an issue with the underground piping that needs to be fixed before the gas can be restored. In an effort to help families cope the apartment’s management has been providing food assistance, but many families said that’s not enough.

“You’re telling me out of a household of five I can only feed three of my kids. How can I feed three and leave the other two out,” Douglas said.

Monday officials from the complex said work was delayed because of weather conditions and they still don’t have a timeline of when the problem will be resolved.

Action News Jax also asked if the families will have a portion of their rent compensated because of the inconvenience, they responded saying “at this time they will continue to provide options for meals.”

Meanwhile families are hoping this issue gets resolved and soon.

“Day by day just praying to God that the gas comes on so I can bathe my baby,” Douglas said.
