Jacksonville FL — Reshaping the roads on Jacksonville’s Southside.
The Florida Department of Transportation is holding a meeting Thursday evening for the public to get more information about the proposed construction for I-95 between the Beltway and Atlantic Boulevard. This meeting gets started at 4 PM with an open house format and then a formal presentation at 4:30. We’re told the presentation will be repeated at 6.
FDOT says the improvements that are being proposed between I-95 between the beltway and JTB include:
• Making interchange improvements at I-95 and Philips Highway
• Widening I-95 to four general use lanes and auxiliary lanes where needed
• Converting the I-95/Baymeadows Road interchange to a diverging diamond configuration
• Improving traffic operations on Baymeadows Road from Old Baymeadows Road to Baymeadows Way
• Making improvements to the Southside Boulevard/Belle Rive Boulevard and Southside Boulevard/Paradise Island Boulevard intersections
• Installing new stormwater ponds and noise walls
The other improvements from JTB to Atlantic include:
• Widening I-95 to five general use lanes and auxiliary lanes where needed
• Converting the Belfort Road at J. Turner Butler Boulevard and I-95 at Emerson Street interchanges to diverging diamond configurations
• Making improvements to the Copper Circle West/Emerson Street intersection
• Reconfiguring ramps at the University Boulevard interchange
• Installing new stormwater ponds and noise walls
FDOT says the reasons for this proposed construction include improving current and future congestion, improving emergency response and hurricane evacuation times, and improving the overall safety of the corridor.
