FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. — The passenger in the other vehicle, a Lexus SUV, also died. 87-year-old Theodora Skarlis of Fernandina Beach was also pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and other passenger in the SUV were also seriously hurt. Troopers identify them as Michelle Burt, 25, and Stephanie Burt, 52.
F.H.P tells Action News Lee drove over the median of U.S. 17 around 3 P.M. and went into oncoming traffic slamming into the Lexus.
Investigators shut down a large portion of the highway for most of the afternoon, and reopened it around 7 Friday evening. Troopers documented the scene, and are now trying to figure out why this crash happened. Specifically if drugs, alcohol or a medical emergency played a role in this deadly crash.
