JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — At least a dozen firetrucks and ambulances with Jacksonville Fire Rescue were on scene to help fight the two alarm fire.
Neighbors told Action News Jax that the flames started on the first floor, outside one of the units, but smoke rose up to the rooms above. JFRD said there’s heavy water and smoke damage inside.
Other nearby units were evacuated and some businesses closed while power was shut off to the property.
As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, JFRD said the fire was contained, but they continued to monitor for hotspots in other units. Nobody was hurt, but some dogs were rescued, and officials said a firefighter helped revive one of the pets.

The owners of the unit, Melody and Dennis Fhaura, were not home at the time the fire broke out and their kids were at school.
“It’s shocking, we didn’t know what was going on. I came because my wife called and told me there’s a fire and they’re trying to get into our unit,” Dennis said.
“Thankfully it happened during the day. If this had happened at night, nobody would’ve noticed and it could’ve been more than just our unit,” Melody added.
At this time, JFRD is still investigating what caused the fire.
