JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after crashing the car he was driving into another vehicle Wednesday morning on the Main Street Bridge.
The wreck happened at about 7:14 a.m. when the man in his 40’s driving a Grand Marquis southbound side-swiped the metal guard railing on the west side of the bridge near the top of the span, a Jacksonville police news release states.
After hitting the railing he swerved across all lanes striking the metal guard railing on the east side of the bridge and traveled into the northbound lane where he struck a Mercedes E350 head on, the news release states.
The man and the woman who was driving the Mercedes were taken to the hospital where the male was pronounced dead.
The bridge remained closed for several hours.
