First Alert Weather: Heavy rain and storms likely today, rip current risk at the beaches

Here’s what the First Alert Weather Team said you can expect for the forecast:

• This morning is dry with temperatures in the 70s under partly cloudy skies.
• A few coastal showers and thunderstorms are possible later this morning as activity offshore slowly presses northwest.
• Rain coverage and intensity should increase around midday into the afternoon as temperatures rise through the 80s.
• Some pockets of torrential rain are likely today, with localized flooding possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
• The strongest storms today will contain frequent lightning, gusty winds, and very heavy rain.
• A high risk of rip currents is in effect along the entire coastline today.
• Sunday will be similarly warm/humid with primarily afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
• The first day of school for many on Monday will be a typical August day: hot, humid, with some afternoon thunderstorms.
• Storm coverage decreases as temperatures increase next week, rising into the middle and upper 90s.
