In the coming months, driving in the Jacksonville area could look a lot different. Commuters will have the option of paying tolls to make their drive more efficient.

On Tuesday, Sky Action News Jax was over the First Coast Expressway, which is expected to open Phase 1 in the fall. Phase 1 connects I-10 in Jacksonville to Blanding Boulevard in Middleburg.

Once complete -- years from now -- the First Coast Expressway will connect I-10 to I-95 in St. Johns County. FDOT hopes it can expedite traffic across the area.

Lori Chi drives from Palm Coast to Orange Park every day for work and says this can't come soon enough.

“I think that would help me a great deal because I drive over an hour here and then over an hour back, and that’s going fast,” Chi said.

Crews are also working on adding express lanes -- which will cost money -- in several areas.

Express lanes at I-295 from JTB to 9B are in progress, express lanes at I-95 between JTB and Atlantic Blvd. are in the beginning stages, and express lanes from the Buckman Bridge on I-295 to I-95 are expected in late summer.
