Officials are investigating after a first-grader brought a gun to a Georgia elementary school.

A Glynn County school district spokesperson said the Golden Isles Elementary School first-grader was showing the gun to students.

One of the students reported it to a paraprofessional, according to district officials.

Parents were notified via a telephone call and a letter will be sent home to students, district officials said.

School police are investigating and the student will be disciplined according to district policy.

Action News Jax spoke with a parent picking up her child from school. She said she believes the school handled the issue well, but said it was still a nerve-racking call to get.

“It’s very scary a first grader would bring a gun to school or how they would even have their hands on it is what’s scary,” parent Sloan Tindall said.

The district spokesman said there were no bullets in the gun and no one was hurt.
